I am usually a quite calm character and have learned to keep my emotions under control very well. I am quite careful when it comes to trusting people and I rather have a few very good friends than a bunch of people to whom I can't talk openly.

I like Asian food very much, but also food from other countries as long as it doesn't include guts, fish that still stare at you and other exotic things (e.g. insects). My favourites are Teriyaki, Sukiyaki, Sushi (chicken or vegetarian), lasagna and roasted potatoes (or kumara).

Without coffee, you wouldn't want to encounter me in the mornings. Apart from coffee (but usually never more than three or four cups a day), I also drink tea. But my main drink is water. I like to keep things quite natural.

I usually get up fairly early in the mornings because I enjoy the song of birds and the calm hours before everyone else gets busy. I don't go out partying, so I usually go to bed at reasonable hours.

My weekends currently aren't very different from the other days of the week as I am a writer and writers simply work when they can and want to work - inspiration can strike at any time of the week.

I don't like gyms - I prefer the outdoors. I like hiking and canoeing and I think all those machines in gyms just look far too unnatural for me.

My favourite author has been Tolkien since I was 13 years old. He inspires me and I read Lord of the Rings at least once a year. I also like Japanese literature a lot (e.g. Haruki Murakami). I often go to the library and pick one book I usually wouldn't read, so I can always get new influences and maybe discover a new author I'd like.

I'm not the kind of person who walks through art galleries regularly (esp. not modern art). I enjoy classic sculptures and architecture though.

I love being outdoors, either hiking or canoeing even though I don't get much chances for canoeing these days. I enjoy being outside and just breathe in the fresh air, listen and talk to the birds.

I used to travel a lot more when I was a little younger but I'm quite content with not leaving New Zealand at the moment as there is so much to see - so I am more of a local traveller these days.

I enjoy reading, playing computer games (when I find the time) and watching one or the other DVD in the evenings.

I love birds. I talk to them. I take photos of them. I often plan my life around getting to see certain birds.

I always have long hair - the natural colour is dark brown but I often dye it (either black or dark red).

Could be better - but I am healthy and I can walk and hike longer than people who look like thin sticks.

I like to dress in black and white, but also like blue and green. I usually wear trousers and quite simple shirts. I do have dresses that I can wear for special occassions but I usually prefer a simple style. Of course, I also dress in outdoor clothing when I'm out there and I love my hiking boots very much!

I would have to trust you 100% before I would explain my beliefs to you - here is one thing I believe: You can be a good person, no matter what religion you believe in. Even if you don't have a religion, you can be a good person. I believe that a person who is good from his/her heart, doesn't need any written rules to do the right things.

I have a seagull addiction. If you let me loose with a camera in my hand, at a place with seagulls, then the result will be a few hundred photos and a very happy me.

I'm not your average woman: I HATE shopping for shoes and clothing. The only shops I really like are bookshops and computer games stores. I also like fantasy stores (i.e. where you can get costumes, swords, sculptures, odds and ends related to Tolkien, manga, RPGs and so on).
