The next day I said: I have interfered with mother nature. And I will interfere more.
It made me uneasy.
The molly wasn't there. I took the kittens and I put them in the sink and I washed them under the tap with soap for humans who have really sensitive skin, and I cleaned their eyes thoroughly. Then I held them in my arms and walked around the yard with them in the glaring sun until they were dry. Then I put them back to their new house.
Washing them had been like rinsing a glove that has been used for gardening in fresh soil speckled with rust. The lice crawling around in their wet fur had reminded me of a heap of maggots crawling about in something rotten.
This was before noon and I went immediately to the vet and bought drops for the eyes and lice remover for kittens and kitten food and also cat food from Sweden that is pure mincemeat without any bulking agent or colorings. Good food.
Then I went back and cleaned the kittens' eyes and put drops in them and put the lice medicine on their skin. Then I put gobs of food in front of the house on three plates, and fresh water.

The mom returned and screamed at me and then gorged herself on the food, and the kittens wobbled to her and ate the food also, to the point of exploding. Then the mom left but came back shortly and stayed. At dinnertime I put drops in the kittens' eyes and gave the little family more food, for the night.
The mom did not leave on the second day after I gave the kittens a bath. She ate food every hour. Her kittens ate food every hour.
