I always notice things that stand out, like a girl in a red coat at a rock gig, a pink car in a queue and that one lone fox, its amber fur contrasting with the green grass as it prowls through the field.
Although I notice these things, I miss out on other obvious things that others notice, like the really tall man that apparently just walked past. The man dressed as a pirate in the book shop and the Brad Pitt that just passed by.
I miss these things because to me they aren’t beautiful, although I think if you wish to dress as a pirate then go for it. That’s the thing though, it is normal to me, just as being tall or looking like a boringly attractive man is.
It seems that the world is turning into sheep, who are told how thin they need to be, how you can never be too orange and how having fake hair is attractive. How you have to like mainstream music, films that everyone has heard of because they cost a fortune to make and have some attractive actor in them. How unless you conform to these rules you will be seen as far too odd to ever have a relationship, unless you somehow manage to find someone as weird as yourself.
Single people long for a relationship because it is seen as normal to be in one. They are looked down upon, pitied and patronised and left on the side-line because their loved-up friends live in a bubble where they find it hard to see past their partner.
I want to be in a relationship for the right reasons, not because I’m a sheep.
The girl has taken her red coat off, revealing a Download t-shirt. She now fits right in.
